Does compression reduce quality?
JPG and WebP compression is lossy: higher compression means smaller files and lower quality. You can preview the result and adjust the quality slider.
What does removing metadata do?
It deletes hidden information such as camera details, dates and GPS coordinates. For JPG and PNG this is done without re-encoding the image.
